SSAS restoration error

  • Hello SSAS Experts,

In one of the SSAS project I connected to the SSAS database from BI. I only dropped and then re-created few objects there and saved the changes.

Then after I took a backup of my SSAS database torestore it to a different machine but during restoration I am getting the below error:

Please note that MYSSAS is the server from where the backup was taken.

    ===================================

Errors in the OLE DB provider. Could not connect to the redirector. Ensure that the SQLBrowser service is running on the 'MySSAS' server.

Errors in the OLE DB provider. An error occurred while named instance information was being retrieved from the SQLBrowser service on the 'MYSSAS' server.

Either a connection cannot be made to the MYSSAS\SQLAna2k5 server, or Analysis Services is not running on the computer specified.

Errors in the metadata manager. An error occurred when loading the Invoicing times 1 dimension, from the file, '\\?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\FlexLab_New.2.db\Invoicing times 1.0.dim.xml'.

Errors in the metadata manager. An error occurred when loading the FlexLab_Economy cube, from the file, '\\?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\FlexLab_New.2.db\FlexLab_Economy.52.cub.xml'.

    (Microsoft.AnalysisServices)

    Any Idea?

  • Hi,

There are quite a lot of errors that i see here

First make sure that the browser and analysis services are running for the server mentioned in the Error message

If the problem is with the backup restoration always good to take the backup again and try restoring it (Just a guess)

Since it says that there are errors with the metadata after the Business objects were dropped and recreated, you can try to do a full cube processing and see if you get the same error when the cube process tries to run the metadata updates for the objects that were dropped.

What i feel once you run the full cube processing and then take a backup and restore it should run fine (Again only a guess)

    Thanks,

    Mani

  • Hello manishankar_83

    My first question

Why it is required that the services should be running on the server mentioned in the error message as that was the server from where the backup was taken. I am restoring that backup to a diff server. (ref to my question closely).

Taking backup again and restoring doesn't worth as the size is huge but even I already tried it many times but no luck...

Cube processing and all the other things mentioned in you reply was already tried many times...

  • HI Vishal,

What is the backup size ?

Can you share the backup file...

    Thanks,

    Mani

  • Hi Vishal,

Not a problem, will try reproducing this error and see if i can come up with something

    Thanks,

    Mani

  • I appreciate your diligence...in the mean time I am trying to understand the Architecture of SSAS 2000/2005.

I am also facing one more problem while migrating my OLAP 2000 DB to SSAS 2005. the error message reads as:

Source server: The 'MSOLAP.2' provider is not registered on the local machine.
