Problem Installing SQL Server 2005 Developer

  • I am not able to get the database engine or client tools to install on my workstation.

    Environment:

    Windows 7 32-bit

    SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer

    Visual Studio 2005, 2008, 2010

    The install starts by warning that the IIS Feature Requirement is not installed. I continue on, and select to install SQL Server Database Service, Integration Services, and Workstation Components. I specify a named instance.

    The following products fail:

    SQL Native Client

    SQL Server Database Services

    Integration Services

    Workstation Components

    The only information in the summary log is:

    An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli.msi'.

    The installation is being run from a MSDN DVD download.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Have a look at

    Cursors never.
    DTS - only when needed and never to control.

  • Thanks for the link!

    Following these steps worked for me:

    * Uninstall the SQL Natural Client by running <CD>:\setup\sqlncli.msi

    * Rebooted

    * Installed the SQL Natural Client through the AutoRun selection

    * Installed SQL 2005 normally

    I have SSRS 2008 installed. If we are developing in SSRS 2005 as well, do I need to have that component installed? It was not available to select during the install.
