TABS in MS SSRS

  • Hey guys...

We know " TABS " in any report can be done in Front End. (using JAVA or .net)

Can we create a TAB section in reports using MS SSRS??

I think we can't do, but please send me u r suggestions.

    Thanks in Advance.

  • I suppose it all comes down to It Depends...

If you're rendering the report to excel Hard Coded Pagination (break after this table type of things) get put into separate worksheets.

If you want it interactive inside the SSRS website then you might be able to make the same sort of navigation possible, but it might not be with Tabs exactly.

I'm not sure this will work, and would be interested to see if you get it working, but you could put a number of tab shaped images across the top of the body of the report and you could toggle the visibility of a variety of report objects on and off based on the image that is clicked. Or you could have a subreport defined where the parameter passed changes with clicks to different images.

  • Lukes suggestion works wonderfully. I use it in a series of reports that I made. I used a table that had tabs as background images and used the "Jump To Report" to move between tabs. I used a table because I could easily copy it from one report to the next so the layout would stay the same. It's not really tabs, but to the end user it appears to be.

Setting it all up was a bit of a pain. I went though a few iterations until i found something that worked. One thing that was a headache was parameters. I had to Make sure all parameters got passed, even if they were not used on the report being navigated to. That way when they navigated back they didn't have to fill in the parameters again.

  • Thanks for the confirmation Steve. It was one of those things I thought would work, but I wasn't quite sure how and didn't have the time to generate an entire test rig and such to try it out. I'd be interested in more details on how you make this work. Might even be decent material for a small article based on how you extended the SSRS infrastructure to get the users what they wanted. Perhaps show how it was done based on the Adventureworks db so that you don't have to worry about company data etc.

  • I already have it written, but I like your idea of using adventure works better. Now I have something to do on my holidays!

  • Thanks for taking the time to write it up to share. If you have another sample database that you'll be including with the article then that would be great as well. I was just kinda tossing out ideas if you were inclined to write it up. I look forward to reading it.
