A great site like this - but for ORACLE.

  • For me, this SQLServerCentral site is great because

    (a) The daily e-mail is bright and even entertaining, especially editorial and question of the day (usually).

    (b) Both articles and forum questions/answers give me useful information or, at least, highlight the gaps in my knowledge.

    (c) It is independent of the database vendor.

Is there any similar site for ORACLE databases? I've come across the OTN (Oracle Technical Network) which provides (b) but it doesn't offer (a) or (c).

    Any suggestions?

  • There was the forums by Revealnet in Chicago but Quest bought it and shut the site and just send useless emails with their list. So here is the only one I know and I have not used it for a while because in Oracle I do just development.

  • Thank you for that link.

I may not register because their Privacy Policy seems to suggest 'you have no privacy from our advertisers'.

However, their existing material should be a useful resource.

    Thanks again.

  • The company that owns it now also run Devx and Codeguru they are a publishing company while Redgate is an engineering company a very big difference.

    Kind regards,

You can always create a gmail or whatever email account for the sole purpose of registering to these kind of places 😉

  • Hi

There is nothing like this in Oracle. this SQLServerCentral is very unique.

  • I've never seen anything like this for Oracle. We've been tempted to start one, but we don't know enough about Oracle 🙂

  • [font="Tahoma"]There's a fair amount of overlap, judging by the commentary on the Oracle-related threads.

I think maybe it's something worth considering. Of course, there's that whole "time" issue.

    Hi Steve,

I am sure once you start this then good people will automatically join to help the community.

Why don't you open a Poll on this to see....;-)

  • as others have said, theres nothing in the oracle world that mirrors SSC which is a great shame as once you get past the basics of oracle, you really need to dig around to get anymore. the one site i've found thats quite helpful is tom kytes blog which covers a lot of material but can be a bit long winded.

    metalink.oracle.com

    Any and all answers.

That is like me telling you Microsoft support which require credit card number to answer none bug calls should take care of all SQL Server problems. I had metalink account at a previous employment.

    Kind regards,

  • metalink.oracle.com seems to be available only if you have an ORACLE support contract.

The great plus point about this SqlServerCentral site is the number of people willingly giving their expertise. They grumble sometimes but we can forgive them for that.

You are correct, Metalink is available only to licensed users.
