The power of a shirt

,

I love wearing all my SQL Saturday speaker shirts.  Here lately the trend has been nice golf or running shirts which look great with a pair of slacks.  Today I work my speaker shirt from SQL Saturday #81 (Birmingham AL).  I was shopping this evening at a local supermarket when a young guy came up and asked if I work with SQL Server.  Guess my response.

He explained to me that he would like to learn more about SQL Server but was not sure how to go about it.  I of course offered up several websites, books, etc that would get him going in the right direction but my main focus for him was to get tapped into the SQL Community.  I shared with him about our local PASS user group, explained was PASS is and how to join.  I was fresh out of cards from SQL Saturday #89 in Atlanta so I had nothing to hand him but was able to get his email address.

As soon as I got home and got the groceries put away I typed out a quick email to him listing various sites to visit and my contact information.  I quickly received a notification that he joined the local PASS Chapter, a friend request for the user group site on facebook as well as a personal friend request.

How cool is it that another person is about to be influenced and changed because of the power of the SQL Community.  What an honor it is to be a part of the SQL Nation.

Cheers
