SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 Released

,

205/365 Special Beer ServiceSome of my clients and I have been waiting on this for a little while – SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 has been released.  It includes resolutions for 21  issues and the inclusion of fixes for 61 issues previously resolved.

Along with the resolution of those issues, Service Pack 2 includes a few new features for SQL Server 2008.  These are:

  • 15K partitioning Improvement
  • Reporting Services in SharePoint Integrated Mode
  • SQL Server 2008 Instance Management
  • Data-tier Application (DAC) Support
  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Application and Multi-Server Management Compatibility with SQL Server 2008

I’m particularly pleased with the last item.  With the release of the service pack, SQL Server 2008 instances can be enrolled in a SQL Server 2008 R2 Utility Control Point (UCP).  If you have looked at this yet, it is the first step in a feature I expect to see a lot from in the future.  This integration has been a common request from people when talking aboht the UCP with people.

So take the plunge and start installing SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 on your development machines so that you can get it into production.  Once you are there – fire up your SQL Server 2008 R2 utility server and take advantage of multi-server management.
