I saw this link posted by Buck Woody (blog | Twitter) and I was a little stunned. This is a profile page for a real estate company, which lists all the people working at this small company. I’ve reproduced the picture below, without the titles.

Can you guess who the IT guy is?

I’d be surprised if you couldn’t, but it’s this guy.

I’m a fan of letting people have some personality, letting them have some input into their own image, but in this case someone should have intervened, asked the guy to clean up and get a professional picture done. Everyone else has one. He doesn’t have to wear a suit, or even a jacket, but get him a better looking picture.

To me, this makes me think that the company doesn’t really pay attention to the IT staff, which could be important. It also tells me this IT guy might not be caring much either about his image.

Neither of which inspires confidence.

I don’t think we need to dress up in IT, but we should be respectable and not present the image of college kids that haven’t grown up.
