PASS DBA VC Session 25th June

,

logo_pass_vcIt’s always an honour to be able to speak at an event, but events can be expensive to attend and they don’t always occur at a time or location that is convenient for you. Thankfully those smart people at PASS have created a number of Virtual Chapters so you can watch sessions live from the comfort of your own home or your office (I can’t comment on the comfort factor of your office).

On the 25th June I will be presenting a session for the DBA Virtual Chapter which is led by Sharon Dooley. This will be the second time I have presented a session for this Virtual Chapter, the first session was on backups and this session is on the topic of baselines.

The Day After Tomorrow; Why You Need to Baseline

Ensuring peak SQL Server performance isn’t always easy and requires a lot of work on the part of the DBA. To maintain the best-possible performance, you need to make sure you’re monitoring the right things. But how do you know if the figures you’re seeing are good or bad? Baseline comparisons can help.

In this session I will show you how to get the most from them, explaining what a baseline is, why and when you need to take one, and how you can create one. You’ll also learn about a number of native Windows and SQL Server tools that will allow you to do just that. Don’t wait for a disaster to fully realize the importance of baselining.

The event is taking place at noon eastern time, to see what that is for your timezone click the following link: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=PASS+DBA+Virtual+Chapter&iso=20140625T12&p1=179&ah=1
