Space - the Final Frontier!
Do not adjust your monitor- this blog is NOT a joke - rubbing your eyes will not help!
Now, Red Gate is an ingenious company, with ingeniously simple software tools, but when I first got the Friends-of-Red-Gate memo, I thought I definitely was dreaming! Maybe even drinking something foreign in the water. For sure, spaced-out! :-) I thought they were releasing another great new product, but oh no, that wasn't good enough!
Over at RG Headquarters, they're always trying to come up with the next BIG idea, and this one is going to be hard to top! Literally! Yes, it was just announced at the Red Gate booth at PASS Summit 2011, that Red-Gate will be sending a lucky (maybe dizzy) DBA into S-P-A-C-E ! I'm not talking database space, I'm talking, 3-2-1 Liftoff!!
This is a REAL contest, host by Red Gate! One of us DBA's somewhere in the SQL Server World - WILL, be going OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD! This is an a chance and adventure of a life-time. What would you bring with you? Forget the iPad, you can win a 1st class ticket into Space!
I hope it's a two-way trip :-O If not, can I enter my mother-in-law? (Ok, good thing she doesn't read this blog :-)
If you want to see Brad in a space suit, you NEED to check out the hilarious and awesome trailer, starring Red Gate's own Brad McGehee (blog|twitter). (Sorry, clubbing a seal is one thing, but this is monumental :-) Indeed, this is HISTORICAL! (Nice, sandbox, Brad :-)
No that the U.S.A has sadly seen the end of its NASA\government backed Space Shuttle program, Red-Gate will boldly break the boundries of any SQL Software Company has to date, and give us SQL Server enthusiasts something to cheer about.
I don't know how they're going to pull it off, but they are definitely going to go where NO DBA HAS GONE BEFORE! Talk about the Future of SQL Server! So much for Denali and SQLAzure!
So, for your chance to Win a Voyage into Space, enter to blast-off, and see the details below: RG Memo Excerpt:
"It's all part of a five-week, online video-quiz, presented and starring Brad McGehee. To take part, you just need to answer some simple questions on space and SQL, and at the end, you could be in the running to win a trip on a commercial spaceflight. Don't forget to sign up and take part.
The prize is open to anyone who administrates databases as part of their job (there goes the mother-in-law idea :-(), whether or not their job title is database administrator. We've put a lot of effort into making the quiz itself entertaining too, so we hope you'll thoroughly enjoy taking part."

Get ready to blast off! RedGate - you've outdone yourself! What's next time travel?? :-O
Oh, and if you're not interested in "going into space", you can still enter the performance story contest, I'm hosting, and win an iPad2 :-)
