About Robert Davis
I started my IT career in early 2000 looking for a job as a web developer. I accepted a position as a database developer with the expectation that I would be able to transition into a web developer position. In my first three years in the industry, I flipped back and forth between database development and web development depending on which role the company needed most. In 2003, the CTO wanted to talk to me about making the change to web developer permanent. My aspirations had changed over the years, and I made a counter-proposal. Our DBA had left the company about 6 months earlier. I convinced them to give me the chance to take over the role of DBA. I ran with the opportunity and never looked back. I have worked as a DBA since 2003 and have been heavily involved in other operations activity since 2002. I have continued to work heavily on both the administrative and development side of SQL Server over the years. I have been contracting at Microsoft for almost 2 years. Outside of work, I am married with two German Shepherds named Maggie and Woody. I am also an avid writer. I frequently blog about SQL Server topics, and I also enjoy writing horror fiction. I am currently writing a book that is tentatively scheduled for a September release from Apress, Inc. titled Pro SQL Server 2008 Mirroring.
