Master Data Services: Resources

,

Here are some of my favorite Master Data Services (MDS) resources:

SQL Server Master Data Services Utilities: A set of useful add-ons for SQL Server Master Data Services, including utilities for generating an MDS model, loading the model, writing a custom UI for model data and integrating the model with SharePoint BCS.  The CustomAppUtilities.dll is a very useful thin wrapper over the MDS web services API’s which are documented at Categorized Web Service Operations.

MDS MODELING WORKBOOK: A modeling tool and a solution accelerator for Microsoft SQL Server Master Data Services.

SQL Server 2012 Master Data Services (MDS) samples: C# and console application samples that demonstrate how to customize the way that you and your users interact with Master Data Services.

Master Data Services Manager: Display Models, Entities, derived hierachies, attributes, versions, flags, members, users, user groups.  Import/export Subscription Views, Business rules.  Cross model entity copy.  Cross model business rules copy.  Several actions on models, entities, members, attributes, versions, flags

Master Data Services Training: Self-paced training by the Microsoft MDS team

Master Data Services in SQL Server 2012: Microsoft site that has overview, training (video’s, slides), documentation, FAQ

PASS Master Data\Data Quality Virtual Chapter: Check out their meeting archive of prior speakers

Master Data Maestro by Profisee: Enterprise-grade master data management software suite designed to deliver powerful data stewardship and data quality capabilities to customers deploying multi-domain MDM solutions.  In short, it is an excellent supplement to MDS, adding many new features and enhancements.  Profisee was created by employees from Stratature (Master Data Services is the rebranding of the Stratature MDM product titled +EDM, which Microsoft acquired in June 2007).  Most of the employees at Stratature went to work at Microsoft when Microsoft bought Stratature, then later left to form Profisee.  And more ex-Stratature employees have left Microsoft since Profisee was formed.

Master Data Services Capacity Guidelines: Provides capacity planning guidelines for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 MDS

Master Data Services Administrator: Compare MDS models from the same or different servers
