SQL Rally Day 1 PreCon

,

Yesterday was the first day of the SQL Rally conference in Orlando, FL.  It was a great first day because I was able to be part of delivering a full day pre conference seminar.  Patrick LeBlanc, Adam Jorgensen, Mike Davis and I did an End to End BI workshop that covered:

Data Modeling

SSIS

SSAS

SSRS

SharePoint BI

I know it’s a lot of material but the goal was to give the attendees a taste of the entire BI stack while solving a specific business problem.  It was our own special form of Infotainment that hopefully kept people interested for the whole day.  One of the attendees Bradley Ball even wrote about his experience during the event, which is much better than anything I could possibly write.  http://www.sqlballs.com/2011/05/sql-rally-pre-con-business-intelligence.html

Today is the second day of SQL Rally and I’m looking forward to attending some great sessions before presenting my own session on Performance Tuning Analysis Services on Friday.  Here’s what I’m planning on attending today:

The Dirty Dozen: PowerShell Scripts for the Busy DBA – Aaron Nelson

Performance Management Scorecards – Building a process to achieve top performance – Scott Schledwitz

Understanding Storage Systems and SQL Server – Wes Brown

T-SQL Code Sins:  The Worst Things We Do to Code and Why – Jenn McCown

SQL Azure 201 – Cloud Database Deep –Dive – Scott Klein

What’s new in SQL Server 2011 (“Denali”) – Aaron Bertrand
