Increasing or Decreasing Sampling Size in SSAS Data Source View Data Explorer

By Brian K. McDonald, 2010/07/19

Recently, I have begun my quest of mastering SSAS. I realize that it may take time and I am more than willing to put in the time to achieve this monumental task. J At any rate, as a network bandwidth conscientious guy that I am, I wanted to decrease the sampling size returned (from 5,000 to 100) when I explored data from within a data source view while creating a cube. To that end, I looked around the screen a little bit in my BIDS environment and there it was. In the top right corner of the Explore Data screen. It looks like a hand pointing to a properties sheet. Click it and modify your sample count accordingly. Figure 1 below shows you an example of this.
