Microsoft Office 2007 Delayed

It looks like Microsoft Office 2007 will be delayed due to performance issues. It was supposed to release in conjunction with Vista (consumer version), but that's apparently not going to happen now.

Office 2007 Delayed Again (InternetNews.com)

I don't see anything on the Microsoft's PressPass portion of their web site,…

Idera SQL Check updated for SQL Server 2005

Idera's SQL Check has been updated to support SQL Server 2005. SQL Check is a free performance monitoring tool, not anywhere near as powerful as Idera's SQL Diagnostics Manager. However, it is free, which may be of some benefit to smaller companies, especially non-profits.

WinFS rolled into next version of SQL Server

A blog posting from the WinFS team caught me a bit by surprise today. Apparently I wasn't the only one, judging by the comments. WinFS was supposed to give us a relational file system. The GSEC certification is SANS' entry level certification, but it isn't an industry entry level certification, if that makes sense.…

It's brief and not a deep dive, but a good read. After looking at the whitepaper, here are some things I…

Distributing Database Connection Strings Using Active Directory Group Policy

I ran into Brian Knight today on the Expo floor here at TechEd. It was good to catch up a bit with him, and I hope to do so more later this week. While we were talking, he presented a security scenario many of us have encountered:

An application…

TechEd - DATTLC01 : Troubleshooting Performance Problems in SQL Server 2005

It's been a few years since I wrote my eBook on SQL Server performance monitoring but I still keep a strong interest in database performance and what people are doing to tweak more cycles out of their database servers. After all, if the database server isn't performing to expectations (so… Read more

In Boston for TechEd

This will be my first ever TechEd and I'm looking forward to it. I was able to go to the PASS Summit in Orlando a couple of years ago thanks to SQLServerCentral.com and I've been to Black Hat in Las Vegas, so I know the next few days will…
