Notes from SQLSaturday #231

,

First time event in Cocoa Beach went really well!

  • Speaker dinner well attended Friday night at Florida’s Seafood
  • Quite a few out of town speakers, and it seemed like more speakers brought their families. Having the event at a hotel on the beach certainly made it
  • What are the odds – the speaker shirt (red Hawaiian) is exactly the same as one I got from South Florida a couple years back and I had packed that very shirt for the Hawaiian theme for the event
  • I was able to spend a good part of dinner chatting with my friend Shannon Lowder. I met Shannon way back at SQLSaturday #48 in Columbia, one more networking win
  • Event was hosted at the Hilton in Cocoa Beach. Decent hotel, nice outside bar/pool area, beach is only a couple minutes walk away
  • Check-in for the event started at 7:30. Two tables, everyone getting a back with some sponsor material and instead of the usual lanyard for the badge it was a lei – nice theming.
  • I did my PCI for the SQL DBA presentation at 8:30, first one of the day. About 15 attendees. Got a few good questions, pretty good reviews, still have too much material for 50 minutes, but ended up being done right on time.
  • 3 tracks at the event, 18 sessions total, and I hear attendance was about 100.
  • Nice sponsor area. One big room set up, sponsors around the walls.
  • Richie Rump was the attendance king, his TSQL session was packed, 50+ attendees
