SQLAndy

I'm Andy Warren, currently a SQL Server trainer with End to End Training. Over the past few years I've been a developer, DBA, and IT Director. I was one of the original founders of SQLServerCentral.com and helped grow that community from zero to about 300k members before deciding to move on to other ventures.

Machine SID Doesn’t Matter

Ran across this post from Mark Russinovich titled The Machine SID Duplication Myth that seems to debunk the idea that SIDs need to be changed when cloning a machine. That isn’t to say that there isn’t work that has to be done via Sysprep or similar, but apparently the SID itself doesn’t cause a problem. Fairly far outside my domain, the only imaging I do is with a RIS server and that process does whatever magic is required, but thought it interesting that all wasn’t as it seems here, to the point that he had written a utility to fix a problem that wasn’t really a problem.
