June Question: How Do You Monitor Your SQL Servers?

By Brad McGehee, 2011/06/01

As DBAs, one of our biggest responsibilities is to monitor our SQL Servers to ensure they are performing as expected. So, for this month’s question, “How do you monitor your SQL Servers?”, please share with us how your monitor your SQL Servers. For example, do you monitor them manually using SSMS, use custom-designed T-SQL or PowerShell scripts, a third-party tool, use some other method, or some combination of techniques? Tell us what you do, how often you do it, and how you decided on the process you have.

Post your responses to the SQL Server Question of the Month in the comments section below (at www.bradmcgehee.com if you are viewing this from a syndicated newsfeed). And don’t forget to enter your e-mail address when you post your response, so I can contact you if you win.

Because there is no right or wrong answer, this month’s winner will be selected randomly from all the entries that are received.
