With the advent of Windows 2003, IIS 6.0 has had a major overhaul, and to be honest, its been a long time coming.  This high level map provides a internals drill through into the products architecture - summarized from numerous Microsoft (and non-MS) presentations and white papers.  This map is a dynamic document, if you find mistakes, we want to hear about them. There is also a PDF version available: IIS6_Map.pdf
