When You're Out of the Office

,

Christmas Gifts

This is it, the last Friday poll before Christmas, many of you won't be back in the office until at least Wednesday, so I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas.

If you do get bored, I'll still be checking email and sending newsletters out all week. No rest for the weary here, but I hope you'll find other things to keep you busy over the weekend and holiday.

So with that in mind, here's a nice, holiday poll to help you find things to do away from the computer:

What's a book or movie you recommend?

Something from 2007, something you read or watched and would recommend to others as a way to pass the time on Monday or Tuesday when they're laying around, looking outside at the snow (you do have snow, right?), and searching for something to do.

I'll start off with two recommendations from the past year. I've got The Bourne Ultimatum and Live Free or Die Hard as yet unwatched. I got them along with the lovely Christmas Tree above, at an annual party I attend. The tree is a great White Elephant gift that seems to show up again every year, with a new set of signatures, at our party. Rest assured I'll save that again for re-gifting next year.

I don't see too many movies in the theater with the cost, distance to drive, and a very busy life. But I will say that I saw both Shrek the Third and The Simpsons Movie this year and enjoyed them quite a bit. Both are recommended for a lazy afternoon.

As for the books, I read a lot and enjoy reading whenever I have a few minutes. I re-read a lot of books in 2007, but there were two new ones that I really liked. They were both the latest book in a series by the authors. I highly recommend you read the series in order to enjoy them, but you could just read these books.

The first is Wheel of Darkness, but Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. This is the latest in the Pendergast series that starts with The Relic. It's a great series that seems to get better with every novel. I read this over Thanksgiving and really liked it.

The other is the latest Jack Reacher novel from Eric Child: Bad Luck and Trouble. I actually read this in the spring when it came out and then re-read it again this fall. It was one I really enjoyed in that series, along with The Enemy.

So share your favorites and enjoy the holiday!
