What is the purpose of "Register as Data-tier Application" ? Expand / Collapse

As I can use "Extract Data-tier Application" to generate a dacpac file, what is the purpose of "Register as Data-tier Application" ?

Do you the reason of it ?

An oldie, but I thought I would reply - Once a database is registered as a data tier you can update that database with an existing dacpack
