I use the standard ifilters with SQL Server to full-text index various Office documents with great success. Sometimes the documents are held in the database in IMAGE columns, other times I use linked servers to index documents held on the file system. However, I noticed that I can't search the text in Office document properties such as "Comments" or custom attributes. Specifically Word.
I have been trying to find official documentation from Microsoft indicating what the Office ifilters are supposed to index so I can say for certain if the extended properties of a Word document should be searchable or not. I can't seem to find anything other than generic documentation that say that Office documents can be searched.
My typical environment is Windows 2003/SQL 2005...however, the question is still applicable for Windows 2003+ and SQL 2005+. Does any one have a page that describes this specific feature for ifilters? Thanks so much in advance.
