Quite a big question, depends on what your job is, are you a developer or DBA, or is this a "learning" question.
Normally the process involves the use of "change control procedures" where changes are tested and checked, before deployment. normally it is a DBA that deploys the changes that have been made by non-dba's. you will probably get others who will post in more detail, but this is the basic process.
