Hi Team,
I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 in my system. but I am not able to install it.
Below is the some of the content from one Log file:

And my OS is Windows XP with SP3.
Actually first I have installed the SQL 2000, 2005 and 2008.
Due to some problems I have uninstalled all of them.
Now I am trying to install SQL Server 2005, but its failing.
one more thing is I am unable to uninstall MSXML 6.0 also.

That is the cause of your problem.
You cannot install SS Enterprise edition on Windows XP SP3, this cofiguration simply is not supported.

Previously I was having SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 installed on my system. I have uninstalled all of them and tried to install only SQL Server 2005 again. Its failing.

Looks like whole issue is with SQL Server 2008.
Before installing SQL Server 2008, every thing was working fine and no issues.
Once after installing SQL Server 2008, my IE is not able to work proeperly and some of the softwares were also not working properly.
So I have uninstalled it and also uninstalled whole SQL Server from my system.
Then again tried to install SQL Server 2005 but failed.
FYI: My OS version is same before and now.

You can install any other version of SS except EE on Windows XP.

I have tried different version of SQL Server 2005. i..e Standard Version but it also failed with the same reason. dont know why I am unable to install.
When I tried to install one of the setup file in the Setup folder of the CD, I got below error:
The Installer has encountered an unexpected error. The error code is 2356. Could not locate cabinate in stream: SQL.cab
I am unable to find it out.

I know it has been a long time but I am having the same problem and can't seem to find out why the installation is not working!!
I am trying to install SQL Server Standard 2005 Edition on a Windows server 2003 R2, 32 bit.
My log files shows exactly the same problem:
Error: Failed to add file :"C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files\SQLSetup0001_DMZVMEWK02_.NET Framework 2.0.log" to cab file : "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\SqlSetup0001.cab" Error Code : 2
(and the same for another 5 files with similar names, that contains the .NET Framework 2.0)
It saves other log files but it doesn't save the files that contains dots (.) on the name.
Can anyone else help?

Just saw a post on another thread which totally worked for me:
