| Granted, this SP is used in transactional replication, but why could it not also be used re snapshot and other types of replication? Thanks.

I have to respectfully disagree. It "can" be used in snapshot replication as well. I know is not very useful but nothing prevents the caller from using it , right?

We use it in our Peer-to-Peer replications and they are Transactional replications, too. And it is very useful... IMO the question is incorrectly asked.
