Have you checked the physical server to identify what resources (IO, Memory, CPU, etc.) are being consumed?

If you can log into the physical server, open task manager to gauge what is consuming the resources. If it's SQL and you cannot get in, check the server event logs to see if anything is being raised there. If not, and you have to stop and start the SQL services, you can only hope something is being logged in the SQL server logs. If not, then it may be time to start a profiler session to trap what's going on.

Terry
