I always here it referred to as the Resource database, so I think it's getting straightened out.

and the name of msdb is actually msdbdata.mdf just to add another $0.02 worth.

While resource and mssqlsystemresource are both "resource" databases they are not the same if you referencing them in code for whatever reason - they are two distinct and different entities. Bad question.

I have just install SQl 2008 and I do not see a resource database in system database? Do we need to install it?
