Hello,
I am trying to build reporting warehouse that will have last 3 years of data. It will be in SQL server 2008.

My main goal of creating reporting database and then use cognos reports as reporting tool. We are planning to create metadata layer after building relational/multi dimentional data warehouse into SQL server 2008.

1) what would be best to develop, relational or dimensional datawarehouse?
2)Do i need to build cubes on top of these warehouse?
3) After creating warehouse how do i create that metadata layer?

This is a starting of project so i want to get clear idea what would be the best approach to achieve end goal.

I appreciate your fedback.

Why do you want to use Cognos? Does your client already have it implemented?
