So, if you ask a question of someone with a personality of null, do you get back a blank stare? Or, what?

Yes.

I disagree. NULL is not blank. Blank is an empty string. But an empty string is still a string even if it contains no characters. The blank stare would, therefore, still be a stare.

If I read the Britts correctly there is a difference between NULL and nill.

Unknown... that's how I feel sometimes when trying to figure out my wife.

SELECT Response FROM dbo.Husband
WHERE Question = 'Honey, do I look fat in this?"
AND Personality IS NOT NULL
AND HasTheGutsToAnswer = 'Y'

Great take on that in an old GU comics (online comic).

"Do these pants make me look fat?"
"Nope. Genetics, diet and lack of exercise are all it takes for that."

(Or something to that effect.)
