Hi,

How does update statistics mechanism work in sql server 2000 and 2005?

Does engine collect data in a periodic time? How often it collects? Can i change this period, how?

How can i update statistics at the moment?

Thanks.

You can't change the frequency. The % of changes that kicks off a stats update is hardcoded. You can update stats manually using UPDATE STATISTICS.
