From the whitepaper:

"XML Functionality in SQL Server 2008
The XML functionality that was introduced in SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 has been enhanced in SQL Server 2008."

Since OPENXML and FOR XML were introduced in SQL Server 2000, I assume they must have done some work in enhancing it. Maybe not though, I guess someone at Redmond may have worked on it.

We aught to write some QotD's using the new syntax features! Never get enough practice!
