For one of my SQL server instance I cannot under any allowed user IDs open Surface Area Configuration.
I get this error. If I click the link I get the 'were sorry no additional information on this error'

Is this a defualt (non named) instance on a cluster? If so, then it is a known bug. I don't have the link handy.
Let me know if this is in fact the configuration. Thanks.

This is a default instance NOT on a cluster Standard Edition with SP2 applied

Are you able to use Configuration Manager? If so, what are you trying to configure using Surface Area Configuration? You should be able to do all of that through standard configuration updates via T-SQL.

You would think in a perfect world but after doing the command I still have the error..unsure what this blog means by the 'on servers' comment
there is no sqlmgmprovider.mof on any of my SQL 2005 installations in that folder...

Not sure why but my one dev server shows the file name sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof.
