just curious to find out how many posters on this site play music of any kind. I play guitar / mandolin - eclectic taste in music. Anyone else?

I wouldn't call myself a musician, but I play Bass Guitar. Contemporary Christian and Christian Rock mainly.

My oldest son is a Bass Guitarist. I met Jack Blades (Night Ranger) once and mentioned that to him and he said "We may not get as much glory, but Bass Guitarists never go hungry."

Joke I told my son, when he started learning the Bass:

A son wanted to learn the Bass, so his father set up a week of evening lessons for him.

After the first lesson, the son comes home and his father asks him "Well, how'd it go?" "Great." says the son, "I learned how to play the first string."

The second night, the son comes home and his father asks him "How'd it go tonight?" "Great," says the son, "I learned how play the second string."

The third night, the son comes home and his father asks him "How'd it go tonight?" His son shrugs and says "Oh, I blew it off. I had a gig."

I strum around on an acoustic some nights. A little Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, few others.

It's recognizable, not sure how good it is.

For me, my main instrument is bass guitar. I also play guitar (depending on the mood, electric or acoustic), occassionally keys (mostly to help with arrangements), flute (classically trained but able to pick up a tune or two when needed). I have a couple harmonicas but have never ventured outside of my house with those.

That's a great joke. I tell people that if you can breath you can play Bass guitar. At least the basics. The only reason I ever use the 3rd and 4th strings are to change things up so I don't get bored. I've only been playing for 2 years and that because somebody GAVE me the bass and a practice amp.

I tend to play acoustic guitar (somewhat badly possibly) when time permits .. if its not work/family/photography time that is

edit when my son was first born I wanted to learn redemption song to play to him as it was one of the songs I used to play for him before he was born .. unfortunately it still escapes me !
