Timeout errors !

  • Hi,

We get a bunch of errors from time to time (once a month) and it seems that in that period of time nobody is able to login in ..

On the other hand I've seen that in one of the trace files (the default one..) there is absolutely nothing written in that period of time, we have a 'gap' of 20 minutes in our case.

Below are the errors we get :

    Message

[298] SQLServer Error: 258, Shared Memory Provider: Timeout error [258]. [SQLSTATE 08001]

    Message

[165] ODBC Error: 0, Login timeout expired [SQLSTATE HYT00]

    Message

[298] SQLServer Error: 258, Unable to complete login process due to delay in prelogin response [SQLSTATE 08001]

    Message

[382] Logon to server '(local)' failed (SubSystemStepHistoryLogger)

I would appreciate if anyone can help in this matter,

  • Is the attempted login originating from the server, or from a remote computer?

  • From the server.

  • In that case, I'm going to hazard a guess that the server is slammed during that time. Check for CPU peak/RAM use peak right before that.

  • What authentication are you using, Windows/SQL or both

Also is the target Database in SINGLE user Mode or something.

There could me many things to consider.

  • Did you ever get an answer to this problem? I have the same issue.
