Removed builtin administrators group now have spurious backup failures

I have removed the builtin administrator group and replaced it with an AD group for our IT Staff.
Now we seem to get spurious backup errors, saying that databases cant be queried as though access is lost. The strange thing is that it is not always the same database backups that fail.
Please help.

Who or what is taking the backups? (sql jobs or third party)

Permissions
