Well, hey. The answer you quoted also included Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. So, gimme my point.

A bit more thought should have gone in this question (and the answers) before posting them.
The documentation says that this feature "Requires the 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 Datacenter or the Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition for Itanium-Based Systems operating system". So while Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition x64 is definitely not on the list (sorry, Dr. Diana Dee), Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition IA64 is.
The answer "Windows Server 2008 Datacenter Edition x64", that I chose (and currently 30% of all participants) is the least incorrect of all options - but it's NOT correct!

Kind of confusing to me...
Edit: I think I understand now... Just because Win2K8 supports Hot Add also on X86 it does not mean that SQL Server also supports it for those editions.

When there is no correct answer to a question ignore the questioner.

Sorry, the initial documentation said data center only, but since the question was written (a few months ago), it's changed. Or been updated.

Unless I misunderstand the documentation, the "corrected" question is still incorrect.
Hot Add CPU is supported on
* the 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 Datacenter (first answer)
* the Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition for Itanium-Based Systems (not listed)
It is not supported on
* The 32-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 Datacenter (part of the second and third answer)
* The 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition (fourth answer).
Unless noted otherwise, "64-bit" is usually assumed to refer to x64, not to Itanium.

It does not look correct to me too, still says: "Correct answer: Windows Server 2008 Datacenter Edition x64, Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition x64 " and shows my incorrect answer.

Requires hardware that supports hot add CPU.
Requires the 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 Datacenter or the Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition for Itanium-Based Systems operating system.
Requires the Enterprise Edition of SQL Server.

I do yhink that one option listed
Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition X64 and not Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition IA64

The correct answer should be
"Correct answer: Windows Server 2008 Datacenter Edition x64, Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition ia64 "
if two of the checkboxes are to be correct. I know this questions is old and I researchedin SQL2008 BOL for RC0.
