Does anyone have any recommendations for processor speed for SQL Server 2005? We are a medium sized company with about 200 end-users. We're going to be purchasing a new server for SQL Server 2005. (And and it will have Windows Server 2003 (32 bit) as the operating system.) We're running SQL Server 2000 on HP servers that are about 3 years old. The HP servers have a processor speed of 3.2 GHz and 2.0 GB of RAM. We're looking at getting the Standard Edition of SQL Server, and using the processing license model. We probably need to stay under $25K for the total cost of hardware and software. Thanks.

It really all depends on how many concurrent connections and how the database is used.

You may want to look into using sqlio to do a benchtest
