How to run Business Intelligence Development Studio in VS2005

Hi,
I have installed RS2005 on SQL Server 200, and completed the Report Server configuration.
During the installation, I choose to install Reporting Services (Report Manager, Shared Tools), Client Components (Management Tools, Business Intelligence Development Studio, Software Development Kit) and the Documentation, Samples, and Sample Database).
When I attempted to create my first report from VS2005, I could not find the Business Intelligence Project.
Can anyone tell me how to import Business Intelligence Project into VS2005, please?
Is there other means to create report apart from using Business Intelligence Development Studio?

Did you install VS2005 first or Sql Server 2005.

Thanks for the reply.

I managed to install the Business Intelligence Development Studio from the SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services DVD and could run the studio from VS 2005 successfully.

run BIDS from Start --? Microsoft SQL Server 2005 --> SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. The exe is dropped at "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" in my default installation. Is this you looking for?

but what u have said it did't work.I am not having BIDS installed along with my sql server 2005. Can u tell me how to install it?

if you havent got the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" existing, you would have probably missed installing it. To install, run the SQL SErver 2005 setup again, and add components, select BIDS in the components to be installed.

hi,

rajan i have got devenv.exe in the folder but still i have not got BIDS install with by sql server 2005 express edition.

here i explain you my problem. I m using sql server 2005 which come with or say built-in sql server 2005 express edition with VS2005, and it does not support reporting service. As i have to use reporting service for that i installed sql server 2005 express edition with advance service.

but still it does't show me bids neither in sql server management studio nor in VS2005. pls help me for this.

I have the same problem. I installed vs2005 first without the sql express option. Then I installed sql 2005 std edt with the reporting service option but I don't get the option to create the report project from within my vs2005 "create project" dialog, and I don't see any more options on the start menu for sql server?!

When I try to add more of the sql 2005 options I can see that I have the reporting option installed already.

What gives?

Sneha - did u try running the exe directly? If this is not working fine, you can probably reinstall the tools (remember, only tools) for the instance, by the setup program. I havent worked much on Express Edition though.

Hi,

I have the same problem, and yesterday I solved it. Here is the steps I followed

1) Uninstall Sql Express Edition (Default With VS2005).

2) Clear all existing registry and Installar database with the help of "Windows Install Clean Up" utility (Only Default Sql Express edition).

3) Install Sql Express Edition (Standard not Advance edition).

4) Now I have integrated "SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio" menu, under "New Project" section of VS2005.

5) I am generating report with the help of this tools but for execution I am deploying the report on my server.

Hi,

I have a similar problem. I was not able to see the VS and BIDS in all programs initially. After I installed vs_setup from the disc 2 of sql server I was able to get VS 2005. However, I am not able to get the BIDS , when I try to run sqlrun_tools.exe and select BIDS from the GUI ,it throws me the following error

"A component that you have specified in the add_local property is already installed . To upgrade the existing component

refer to the template.ini and set the upgrade property to the name of the component."

Any clue how this can be fixed??
