Remote database cannot be catalogued in the sql server management studio

  • Hi All,

I have installed Yukon on an server with all the components. I have sql server 2000 instance running on another system with databases.

I am unable to access the remote database from the SQL server management studio. When i am trying for the new server registration in the management studio console, i am getting the following error,

    TITLE: New Server Registration

    ------------------------------

Testing the registered server failed. Verify the server name, login credentials, and database, and then click Test again.

    ------------------------------

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10060)

Windows integration is anabled in both the sql servers and both the SQL servers are installed on XP systems.

One of the server is sql server 2005 (YUKON) and another is sql server 2000.

I have installed only the components of the YUKON on the server with sql 2000. Still from both servers i can see only the local databases in the server management studio.

Can anybody help me as to how can i integrate both the servers in the same server management studio.

    TIA.

    Sanjay..
