sql profiler - network connection issue on own machine!

  • here's a good one.

    I'm running sql profiler on a machine A. It's profiling activity on machine A. I just got a general network error from profiler "Failed to read trace data."

    WTF? how could network have anything to do with it? it's on the machine it's profiling?!?!

    Can someone please shed light. this doesn't make sense to me.

    Failed to read trace data.

    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionRead(recv()). (State 01000) (Code 10054)

    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]General network error. Check your network documentation. (State 08501)(Code 11)

  • "General network error. Check your network"

    When SQL profiler or SQL Analyzer lose its connection to sql server, it will report this error. It does not matter the server is on local host or a remote machine.
