Is any version of Powershell particularly better for DBAs?

  • I am a PowerShell novice. My company mostly still has versions 1 and 2 installed. We have a need for it in a couple places, but nothing major. However, there are a bunch of legacy ETLs that someone wrote using PowerShell. On our machines that have version 2 currently installed, I think installing 3 and 4 makes since because those versions can all run side-by-side and I can migrate the legacy scripts to the newer version at my leisure. However, for the servers that still have version 1 installed, I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle unless there are overwhelming reasons why 2, 3, and/or 4 could be better for us. Keep in mind, we will be doing very basic DBA tasks and some data/file transfer. No windows/network/vm admin tasks.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
