What, if any, are performance issues when moving data from on-prem SQL Server 2008 databases to Azure VM SQL Server (2014) instances?
The policy here is that newer versions of SQL Server should be on Azure rather than on-prem. I'm building a new data warehouse and would like to have a more recent version of SQL Server since this will pretty much a "greenfield" installation (ie no real legacy issues).
My concern is that since SSIS will need to be on the cloud on the Azure VM running on SQL Server 2014 connecting to on-prem 2008R2 data sources, there might be a performance hit.
Does anyone have any experience doing this?
