Am i the only one getting 150 SPAM emails every day?

  • Just checking if others also get spam emails? I get around 150 SPAM emails first thing in the morning. I have sent couple emails to webmaster about this but no response. Do others also have this issue? It is annoying to switch through 100's of emails.

  • From SSC?

I don't get any SPAM emails from this site.

  • Are you subscribed to the forum? Is the spam coming from spam threads created in the forum and then deleted?

  • With the Olympics, we are getting lots of spam submissions to forums. We are working on this, but it's a challenge.

If you've sent a message to the webmaster and not gotten a reply, please send me a note at sjones @ this domain with a copy of the email. You should get responses.

If you're pressing "report", we get those, but not from your email, and are working to clean things up.

  • Yeah from SSC . The SPAM is coming from SSC. I am subscribed to many topics, not sure which one is it coming from. But looks like the topic does get deleted, but yeah i get a email triggered for every one of those. Any idea how do i control these? How could i be the only one getting these ?

That tells me you are subscribed to those forum topics which means you get notifications for any post to those topics. Which means if the spammers hit those topics you get notified of the post. Unless you unscribe from the topic I don't think there is much you can do.

May be i am not doing this right. I guess how do others manage this? I want to get notified whenever a question/comment is posted in for example SQL Server 2008 performance tuning so that i can read/respond to it.

How do they filter out the spam from the real posts? Not sure. I am only subscribed to one forum and the spammers haven't touched it. Looking at the notifications from it, there is nothing there to tell you if it is a spam post or a real post. If you want to know that a post has been created in specific forums it looks like you get the good with the bad.

For all others I just look at the Recent Posts to see what has been recently posted.

I'm not subscribed to any forums, just threads that I reply to.

To follow new posts, I usually use the Active Threads link on the left of the page or the Recent Posts link at the top.

  • I just use Active Threads and check periodically. The 2012 General and 2014 Admin (and Programming General) seem to be targets for spam for some reason. Not sure why. Those get a lot.

I suspect someone has a script that creates a new user, answers an email, and then posts spam since we'll get 20-30 new ones in those forums each day.
