AcquireConnection method call to the conn mgr ...ODBC failed

  • I have exhausted all possibilities trying to get my DTSX pkg to connect to an external database using an ODBC Conn when kicking off the job manually (or scheduled for that matter). The ext data source is 32-bit so I had a 32-bit server and 32-bit SQL 2014 setup in an attempt to resolve this issue; the DTSX is also set for 32-bit just to make sure if that would be the issue or not. Here's what I have...SQL Server, SQL Server Agent, and Integration Services 12.0 services are running via a domain account. The protection level of the pkg is set to 'EncryptSensitiveWithPassword'. I'm not getting any denial errors indicating access to something is the problem. Now I can set the pkg up in a job with either Integration Svc Catalog or File System; both under a job fails. If i kick off the DTSX manually via Integration Svc Catalog or exec utility, the dtsx pkg runs successfully. All errors in the report point to 'error trying to establish an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connection.' I'm at a loss here. Any ideas would be fantastic!
