Windows 10 hijacking killed my SQL Server link

  • Windows 10 tried to install itself on my laptop twice last night. I killed it both times, last time it was at 90%.

Went to go set up a connection from my vb.net program to my program, and got:

Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider. It may not be installed ?

This was working the other day for another program.

    This is to a 2008 R2 db linked to a 2014 instance.

I'm pretty sure the Windows 10 install and killing it caused this to happen.

Any ideas how I could check for the .NET Framework Data Provider (System.Data.SQLServerClient) requirements, and where I could find a file to update with?
