SSRS Reports Migration to source control

  • Is it possible to migrate all reports from the SQL report Server to a repository in the Source control environment? if yes how? because I have copied all files to a window environment and its still saying file extension .RDL but when I try to open it its opening in XML, I try opening it from Visual studio all different ways its giving me the same result started wondering if its the way I copy the RDL files from the report Server. So if you have any idea please help.

    Thanks

  • Create a new SSRS project in visual studio and add the rdl files in as existing files, then add the project to TFS/Source Control

  • Yeah That is what I am doing but my visual studio is loading the reports files as XML instead of design view (.RDL) type. that is why i am wondering if the file on the report server are stored as XML instead of .RDL. If its not the case what is the proper way to get it done?

  • You are not doing anything wrong. If not opened in SSRS project, rdl reports are just xml files. However you can import all of these reports into a project and check in the project / solution file also.

  • Is there an easy way to import them if i don't want to do it individually?

Has someone ever used a "Database project" to move reports from report sever to Visual Studio Source control ? if yes how ?
