Im running SQL server data tools (BIDS) and have configure my ssrs solution to point at my live and dev servers for deployment in configuration manager. Is it not possible to configure my data connections in the same way? so when i deploy to my dev server all my data connections are point at my dev database etc?

It is done in a slightly different way.
All your reports share data connections in their environment, so once you have a deployed a data connection to an environment, you edit that data connection to point to the appropriate database and then set the project property OverwriteDataSources to false.

so you cant switch between dev and live database from within your local environment as i can with my web trasnforms in my C# projects? i would have thought MS would have sorted this by now 🙁
