Add node to SQL2005(SP4) cluster error SQLRUN_SQL.msi

  • I am trying to add a node to an existing SQL 2005 cluster, almost immediately the installation starts I get a message saying SQLRUN_SQL.msi can't be found.

I have the media in the same place as the original install

    Can see the msi file

Have tried expanding the service packs for the msi

I believe the relevant error is this:

SOURCEMGMT: Attempting to use LastUsedSource from source list.

    SOURCEMGMT: Trying source C:\Source\SQLServer2005\Servers\Setup\.

SOURCEMGMT: Source is invalid due to invalid package code (product code doesn't match).

    Note: 1: 1706 2: -2147483646 3: SqlRun_SQL.msi

    Any ideas?

  • I've never received that error, but I have had SP4 break a SQL 2005 instance. Please tell me you're testing SP4 on a test server and not a production server. Doing so saved me a very long day and a killer headache.

On SQL 2005, you can't uninstall a SQL Server SP. MS actually says to uninstall SQL Server, then reinstall it and patch it to the level you want. :w00t:

  • Embarrassing solution found. Client gave me the standard media and not the enterprise media. Not the first time I have had something embarrassing be the solution and won't be the last I am sure.
