I have worked with some cubes and used ProClarity and Pyramid to build reports off the cubes. I have changed to a new department and they want to do some analysis of data with those tools but they don't have any data cubes. So I am looking to build a cube from the ground up. This is my first time, I have always worked with existing cubes (adding dimensions, etc.) and have never set one up from scratch, including the SSAS server.
I started looking for some books to read up on the process and found many available. Does anyone have one or two that they would recommend for the circumstances I am in? I am kind of looking at 'beginner' books so that I get the server setup steps, etc. But I am familiar with the cube concepts as I have worked with them.

Great, thank you! I had seen the Expert Cube Development but wasn't sure it would cover the basics that I am looking for. I'll start with the training kit and move up.

One word of warning about SSAS.
There were a few major changes to SSAS after 2008R2. Make sure you use material for the version of SQL Server you're using.

We're discussing multidimensional in this topic, so tabular aside (and all the Power Pivot/View changes), there are no "major" changes for SSAS since SQL Server 2008.

We're discussing multidimensional in this topic, so tabular aside (and all the Power Pivot/View changes), there are no "major" changes for SSAS since SQL Server 2008.
My initial comment was to avoid a situation like the OP falling in love with tabular then finding out it didn't apply to SQL2008.
There may not be other major changes, but I know there's new functions in MDX that I wish I had in 2008R2.
