In this database mirroring scenario, what would you expect to happen?

  • Principal @ site 1.

    Witness & Mirror @ site 2.

    Comms issue between 1 & 2.

    ----------------

I have a system set up like this (by someone else) & no test system. I'm trying to work through the possible scenarios & solutions. Appreciate your responses.

  • If the connection between Site1 and Site 2 drops, principal will go offline (it doesn't have quorum), Mirror becomes new principal.

  • Thanks Gail.

This is only a hypothetical but am I right in saying that it would not be possible to manually fail back until the comms issue was resolved?

    ie.

    remove the witness.

    fail back.

    That is correct.

You could manually bring the old principal online but that would be a last resort

  • With the network down, you won't be able to do a controlled failover.

  • Much obliged!
