Best windows server support forums??

  • Had a quick google but can't see anything that has as much content as Sqlservercentral, and don't want to post a question in a graveyard :crying:

If anyone is interested in my plight... migrating a SQL server build from Win 2003 to Win 2008 R2 and having a problem with the newer version of IIS/FTP (now v7 and previously was v6 or was it 6.5, need to check :ermm:)....

Anyway, with the old version I could login to FTP using the locally created account by specifying HOSTNAME\ftpuser at the login prompt. When trying to do the same in the new version it isn't working (very general "530 User cannot log in." message) and only works when I simply have ftpuser.

Apparently the 3rd party folk who will be using this can't change their signin details. Is this simply a limitation of the later version of IIS that it doesn't allow me to add HOSTNAME during authentication???

  • I wonder if its something like:

"By setting the useDomainNameAsHostName attribute to true, you can specify the virtual host and user name by using domain name syntax; this lets you use a backslash character instead of the pipe (vertical line) character; so the syntax would look like "ftp.contoso.com\username" or "ftp.fabrikam.com\username".

    "

I just gave bing a shot LOL

edit: That page does seem to reference virtual hosts though so I wonder if that applies in this case?

  • Managed to get it working - as well as having 'anonymous' access allowed (like the old server) I had to also allow 'basic' 🙂
